Meet Dr. Lena D. Karkalas

Dr. Lena D. Karkalas is dedicated to helping patients achieve healthy, beautiful smiles through personalized dental care and advanced treatment solutions. With over 30 years of experience in general and cosmetic dentistry, she combines clinical expertise with a patient-centered approach to create comfortable, positive dental experiences.

Dr. Karkalas earned her Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the New York University College of Dentistry in 1996. She continued her advanced training at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital, where she received a Graduate Certificate in Advanced Education in General Dentistry. Her commitment to continuing education has allowed her to stay at the forefront of modern dentistry and provide patients with the latest treatment options and techniques.

Through ongoing education and advanced training, Dr. Karkalas continually expands her knowledge of cosmetic, restorative, and general dentistry to provide patients with exceptional, evidence-based care and natural-looking results.

In addition to her clinical practice, Dr. Karkalas is actively involved in several respected professional organizations. She is a member of the Academy of General Dentistry and the Academy of Dentistry International. She previously served as Treasurer of the Rhode Island chapter of the Academy of General Dentistry. She is also a member of the American Board of Forensic Odontology (ABFO).

Dr. Karkalas has distinguished herself in the field of forensic dentistry. In 2018, she achieved Board Certification and Accreditation in Forensic Dentistry, becoming Rhode Island’s first Board-Certified Forensic Odontologist. As a member of the American Society of Forensic Odontology (ASFO), she works closely with the Rhode Island Medical Examiner’s Office, providing specialized expertise in forensic dental identification.
